Press release 25 June 2018.

GRiD, the group risk industry body, is delighted to announce that Global Benefits Group (GBG) has become a member and will benefit from the opportunity to help shape group risk policymaking and access to various working groups’ output including consultation responses, regulatory updates, employer research and pan industry claims data.

Cathy Garner, Global Head of Life and Disability at GBG, said: “GBG is committed to providing group protection solutions to employees all over the world, and considers that the UK group protection insurance industry leads the way globally in developing products for the employee benefits market.

“We are delighted to be joining GRiD as we believe this will help ensure that our products are the best that they can be. We look forward to engaging fully with the UK group protection industry under GRiD’s auspices, and to bringing what may be a useful international perspective to the industry as well.”

Steve Bridger, chairman of GRiD, said: “It’s great to have GBG on board and we look forward to their insight on the international protection arena and believe they’ll benefit greatly from our array of support in the UK.

“We’ve had a really positive response to our recently launched training academy which will allow newer group risk practitioners or those with limited support to benefit from the wider experience the UK industry can provide.”

About GRiD

Group Risk Development (GRiD) is the industry body for the group risk protection sector, promoting the value to UK businesses of providing financial protection for their staff, enhancing their wellbeing and improving employee engagement. Our membership includes insurers, reinsurers and intermediaries who have a collective wealth of experience built over years of operating in the group risk protection market. Under the chairmanship of Steve Bridger (MD Group Protection, Aviva UK Insurance) GRiD aims to promote group risk through a collective voice to Government, policymakers, stakeholders and employers.

GRiD works with government departments and regulators involved in legislation and regulation affecting group risk benefits, and with other organisations involved in the benefits and financial protection arenas. GRiD also seeks to enhance the industry’s standing by encouraging best practice and by participating in industry-wide initiatives such as the professional qualification in group risk managed jointly with the Chartered Insurance Institute.

GRiD’s media activity aims to generate a wider awareness and understanding of group risk products and their benefits for employers and employees.

GRiD’s dedicated spokesperson, Katharine Moxham, provides expert media comment on a full range of group risk issues.
