Comment from GRiD on CII’s ‘Achieving an Inclusive Working Environment for Disabled People’

Press release 3 December 2019.

Following the CII’s publication of ‘Achieving an Inclusive Working Environment for Disabled People,’ in association with Scope,* Katharine Moxham, spokesperson for GRiD comments:

“Employer-sponsored group risk protection benefits (life assurance, income protection and critical illness) have an important part to play in improving access to insurance which can give a real boost to financial resilience for everyone, and can be especially valuable for those with a disability and/or living with a health condition. On top of this, the extra help and support that comes with a group risk policy (particularly group income protection) can give employers a simple and cost-effective way of managing the asks being made of them by Government to help their people improve their physical, mental and financial health and to help close the disability employment gap. Such help and support can include access to an Employee Assistance Programme, second medical opinion, fast-track access to counselling and physiotherapy, advice on workstation modifications and compliance with the Equality Act and more.  Increasingly, the embedded support services provided are focusing on health, such as access to a GP service 24/7, dietary advice, encouragement for getting and staying active, apps and more.

“Having group risk protection benefits in place can give employers the comfort of knowing they can support people with disabilities into employment and help to keep them there (because they have independent third party help at hand) and that they can manage their financial liabilities related to risk.”

GRiD works with government departments and regulators involved in legislation and regulation affecting group risk benefits, and with other organisations involved in the benefits and financial protection arenas.
