Health Shield joins GRiD in a drive to increase industry collaboration and parity for smaller employers

Press release 16 April 2019.

Health Shield, the Friendly Society that offers a range of preventative health and wellbeing solutions to employers and employees - from Health Cash Plans to Health Screening and Occupational Health - has today announced that it has joined GRiD, the group risk industry body responsible for promoting the value to UK businesses of providing financial protection for their staff, enhancing wellbeing and improving employee engagement.

For over 140 years, prior to the NHS or welfare state, Health Shield has been providing cover to families to help them meet their everyday healthcare needs. With the responsibility for employee wellbeing increasingly falling to the employer, the company believes now is an important time for the industry to collaborate.

Health Shield's Head of Product and Marketing Jennie Doyle said: “Joining GRiD demonstrates our commitment to working in partnership with other industry experts to help ensure the growth and sustainability of preventative health solutions for UK businesses.”

Health Shield is particularly keen to ensure that the preventative health sector gives as much consideration to smaller employers as it does larger corporates.

Doyle continued: “We are dedicated to helping shape the group sector by designing early intervention wellbeing solutions that are accessible to the entire workforce, not just senior management – however big or small the organisation. We often find that smaller organisations are no less keen to support their staff but need extra help in doing so. We hope that by joining GRiD we can champion their cause in ensuring that the industry works together to provide suitable products for all employers - no matter what their demographic.”

Steve Bridger, chairman of GRiD said: “We very much welcome Health Shield’s approach to GRiD membership and look forward to their contribution in developing ways that we as an industry can work together for the good of all employers and employees. The addition of a non-profit-making friendly society, will also bring another interesting perspective to the debate.”
