It's not very often that an entire industry can play a part in shaping change, but we have been presented with such an opportunity to work together that I couldn't let it pass without comment.
Given its origin (Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy - BEIS) and title (Consultation on measures to increase transparency in the UK labour market), many in the financial protection industry could be forgiven for not realising this consultation could have a huge impact in our world and on employers.
The consultation is in response to the Matthew Taylor Review into Modern Working Practices. The reason all protection practitioners should be called to action is that, amongst other things, it asks whether sick pay should be included in the written statement of employment particulars that employers are obliged to provide to their workforce.
Indeed, the consultation actually proposes that sick leave and pay entitlement should be added to the current information that must be included in a principal written statement from an employer.
Given the way this is positioned, if you agree with this change, it would be worthwhile responding to affirm this. If you disagree, then now is the time to make that known.
