Comment from GRiD on green paper from government on Work and Health

Comment issued 2 November 2016

Following the green paper issued by the Department for Work and Pensions and Department of Health this week, Katharine Moxham, spokesperson for Group Risk industry body GRiD comments:

"We welcome the DWP/DH Improving Lives Work, Health and Disability Green Paper and are particularly pleased that the role that group income protection can play in supporting employers' health, wellness and attendance programmes has been recognised.

"Group income protection enables employers to take a more proactive approach to the health, wellbeing and financial resilience of their employees. Both Government and the industry have a role to play in raising awareness of the need to protect income against the consequences of prolonged illness or disability and the importance of the workplace in particular in helping to achieve this. We recognise the difficulties faced by SMEs and would be happy to work with Government on initiatives to grow awareness amongst them.

"As the group risk industry body, GRiD will be responding to the consultation."

About GRiD

Founded in 1998, Group Risk Development (GRiD) encourages awareness and uptake of corporate group protection benefits – income protection, group life insurance and critical illness cover – on behalf of its members which include insurers, reinsurers and intermediary businesses. Under the chairmanship of Lee Lovett, CEO of Ellipse, GRiD aims to enhance the industry’s profile among media and stakeholder groups. The Group provides a collective voice to Government and participates in industry wide initiatives such as the qualification in Group Risk launched jointly with the Chartered Insurance Institute. In May 2009, the Group appointed its first dedicated spokesperson, Katharine Moxham, to provide expert media comment on a full range of group risk issues.
